One of the earliest starship designs approved by the New Republic which came to be produced in
limited numbers. The Belarus is a modernization over the Strike Cruiser and was rushed into
production by the New Republic. It is a bit more efficient in terms of its crew complement
but much less adaptable in terms of modularity. Although cheaper to construct, it takes a
standard refit to alter. It is more crew effecient than the Strike cruiser, and the weapons
systems on the Belarus-class cruiser is improved laterally by 40%, with 5 turbolaser cannons,
5 turbolaser batteries, 2 ion cannons, and 2 tractor beam projectors on each flank, but the
rear quarter is virtually defenseless. Five additional turbolaser cannons, an ion cannon,
and 4 tractor beam projectors protect the forward quarter, while only a pair of tractor beam
projectors are found at the rear. The Belarus is typically deployed in line with lighter
ships, covering forward and rear deployment, or part of a centre section of a stronger
formations.
