The Corona-class frigate is one of the earliest starship designs approved by the New Republic,
although it saw limited production. It is not considered one of the new class of ships
produced for the Fifth Battle Group, such as the Sacheen-class escort frigate, but it was
introduced at the same time, during the Black Fleet Crisis with great success. The
Corona-class is modeled after the KDY Nebulon-B frigate which had been so useful to the
Rebellion in many different roles, with more powerful weapons than the original. It also has
more fighters, better speed and slightly improved sensor suite, all making for a ship with
even better versatility than the original Nebulon-B.
