The Lancer Mk IIB is an NIF follow up on the nearly unknown Lancer Mk II design. The Lancer
Mk II was a project intended to improve certain obvious deficiencies in the original Lancer,
such as too low speed to be effective and high maintenance. It had doubled amount of
weaponry, greatly increased speed and improved fire control. While the Mk II design was lost
along with its inventor, the Mk IIB takes the improvements of the Mk II a further step with
more modern equipment such as backup shields, laser cannons with extreme range, stronger
hull and higher automation level. It features two ion engines for increased redundancy over
a single large one. The result is without doubt the most effective dedicated
anti-starfighter ship in the known galaxy.
