Marauder Mk III-class Corvette

The New Imperial Federation employed and upgraded Marauder-class Corvettes with distinction for years, and finally decided in 53 GR to go all the way and create a modern version of it. It uses the exact same superstructure and base schematics as the original version to allow older Marauders to eventually be upgraded to the Mk III. It utilizes modern electronics and wiring together with the latest in cryocooling and power systems, giving it a small but significant boost in shielding, enging thrust, and firepower. It was also given a few 360-degrees maneuvering ion stream jets which gives it improved maneuverability in both space and air, allowing it to fly more like a sluggish starfighter than a capital ship. Half of the cargo compartment was redesigned as additonal hangar space plus a modest warhead magazine. Some equipment was replaced by smaller but just as efficient versions (such as the retractable turbolaser cannons), giving it additional room for troops as well. While a capable microcarrier and boarding support ship, the Mk III was also intended to maintain and expand upon the original ship's capacity for ground action. Since the original ship was noted for unusually accurate tractor beam projectors, clever design has kept the targeting system and added a sensor shroud suite, allowing the improved targeting systems to feed all weapons with accurate data.
