Early after the birth of the New Republic, another Calamari design came into use. The most
famous ship of this class is the Mon Remonda, which served as flagship of the Fifth
Battlegroup during the war with Warlord Zsinj. It is based on the MC80a with the same lenght
but built up more. It doesn't have more weapons than its predecessors yet greatly increased
combat capabilities due to its very powerful shields. These ships are however quite rare since
it is an intermediate design. The heavily modified Mon Remonda was even able to cripple the
Executor-class Iron Fist with assistance and tactical advantage at the Battle of Selaggis.
The earliest MC80b's carries 4 squadrons of starfighters, but it was soon expanded to 8 in a
single portside hangar.
