[OOC: Sorry that this is a bit long and highly emotionally charged. But I just let it roll out while thinking as the character]

During the Moff"s outburst Rikku had remained motionless. However, such displays were to her and her kind considered childish and inappropriate for command. However, she knew to expect the same from others would be unfair. Despite that his response and his accusation was more unbearable for the either intentional or unintentional insult to her honor. It was then that she became grateful for all those long days of aristocratic training...

Iaex's voice broke into her thoughts, "Now - Lieutenant Uesugi - while we wait for the security personnel, will you please fill in the Moff on what else you told me?"

Rikku looked over at Iaex. In her eyes, he could clearly read a very large amount of annoyance. Yet, he could also see pain and concern as she made eye contact with him. Her eyes very clearly communicating she was concerned for him since things were clearly not going smoothly. The next moment her eyes showed nothing but calm serenity as she looked back towards the angry Moff.

"Yes, I think that would be appropriate. Though first, I will make one thing clear to the Moff. These are amiable notices so don't take it too personally. I will not repeat myself, so I suggest you can pay attention.

First, most importantly to me, if by any means or method you or your underlings harm Iaex: I will hold you personally responsible. One more thing, I will assume you unintentionally insulted my honor and integrity. So, I will overlook it this once." Rikku's tone changed from a less protective-warning tone to a more even but still serious one.

"As of last I heard, which was awhile ago; we are presently engaged in a war of our own. The race is called the Myrderi. A name that they have richly earned! We know that they committed at least a dozen genocides before they attempted to wipe us out the first time. It seems like some children they don't learn from being burned the first time. As it stands their goals are known to both us and were relayed to your Government as well. I will state them for your benefit as well. Though I think it would be prudent to give you more rather than less information. Otherwise, it might not make sense to you...

The Myrderi are about Galactic Par in your terms. In more concrete terms they would be an even match tech-wise for the New Republic. Their fleet last we checked is larger than ours by a ratio of 5-1. However, it won't do them any good. Technologically, we are more advanced. In addition, the dynamics were shifting towards the only other race still standing joining with us. As otherwise, they will be wiped out or enslaved like all the species in Myrderi space. To our knowledge, the Myrderi have committed around twenty genocides. Those that are left serve only three purposes. To breed new slaves for their labor force. These people are then worked to death. Lastly, they serve as living and intelligent 'prey' for the Myrderi's sport.

Now the Myrderi are trying once more to wipe my people out. So they can take our technology and use it to spread murder, rape and death across the galaxy. If they get it, we are unsure if any group will be able to stop them, even ICE as technologically bleeding edge as it is. However, the danger not only presents itself to ICE but also everyone you know back at your homes. The Myrderi somehow managed to determine the existence of our Quantum Gate Network. If both your and our gates are working they bring death and bloodshed to your galaxy as well.

Whether you like it or not, we are now fighting as much for ourselves as for your Galaxy's freedom. Freedom to live in relative peace and to develop on your own. Without a fear of being invaded by some distance bloodthirsty force. To be able to have your dreams and to work to make them come true." Rikku's tone became almost mournful as she continued...

"We have known this war would happen for the last five-thousand years. When the 'dragons of war' will be unleashed and the fragile armistice that was signed so long ago, will be broken. You must understand, we will win cause we cannot afford to lose! There is no other option for us nor that we will consider. This will either be our defining moment of this Epoch or we will disappear. This is our battle-of-the-line! Our last stand to stave off the night even if it is for a 'short' time. Do not pretend you know us, yet. Someday, we hope to give you the reigns and the mission we were intrusted with." The Moff noticed that there were tears of pain sorrow and desperation on the girl's face. Rikku moved her hand slightly just enough that Iaex knew not to try and comfort her at the moment.

"Till the time that you are ready, we will and continue to die for you. I fear for the day that may happen when we are gone and you are not yet ready. I fear for these people on this ship, the people of the NIF and those of your Galaxy. You have not seen the pain and worry that racks my elders year to year. The constant planning and strategizing that goes on year after year. The careful and painstaking care taken to make sure that somehow you will get our legacy should we fall. Do not pretend to know or understand what I and every one of my people has to endure century after century. My brother died protecting you and this ship! All that was left of him are his hair bands, which I wear.

My sister Sakura is probably even now risking her life to save one of yours. My oldest sister Hinamori married a human, became an NIF citizen. Her oldest son died on Sarapin. Over my own 'short' 175 years I know over fifty friends, childhood playmates and family that have died or were maimed beyond any recognition.

To protect you and your galaxy without a thought of ever turning away and stepping aside. You don't understand us...Don't ever lecture me or any other Eldorrin on honor duty or sacrifice. Even now my people are dying to protect you and your Galaxy. Yet all you can show me is anger resentment and distrust." As she finished the last sentence the tears were very obvious and every breath she took was full of pain and sorrow. Rikku's small frame shook in time with her breaths. To both men in the room it seemed as if her body could barely contain her emotions...Then somehow managed to get out, "I will protect Iaex no matter what the cost to me. Even if I end up dying to do it. You have no right to tell me otherwise..."

Rikku could see in her mind the images of the bodies of those she knew. Those that had died. Those alive as nothing but shells; broken such as to be hardly 'human'. The image of her brother was the most vivid...

His happy smiling face before he left, telling her he would be back home soon. Seeing herself, barely 12, running out of the house to welcome her brother home. Only to see her brother's two squad-mates holding a stretcher draped with a flag. The hurt and pained look in their eyes as the lowered the stretcher. Their voices telling her that her brother was dead. Her yelling at them that they were lying that her brother couldn't be dead! She lifted the flag-corner before they could stop her only to see the cut, and mutilated face of her brother. She cried and started pummeling her small fists into one of them as she screamed and cried. The tears on her sister's faces as they came running to hold her. They guided her to her room and stayed with her. She recalled the voices downstairs as they told the family what had happened...

Barely a whisper through her tears, "Byakuya...Bayakuya..."

(OOC: Yes, I’m playing hardass on purpose. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but I think this is how a man placed in command and then put in this situation would react. This is, after all, a large-scale military operation.)

Cale looked between them for a moment, incredulous. “All right, now you listen to me,” he said, barely controlling his fury. “You say that you will hold me personally responsible for any harm that comes to Larek? And that I insulted your honor unintentionally, and so you’ll ‘overlook it just this once?’ I wonder if you understand the chain-of-command! You don’t get to put me on notice in such a way! If you want to gain my trust, Lieutenant Uesugi, insinuating threats is not the way to do it. I speak for the Vicereine, and she speaks with the authority of Emperor Kane! Understood?

“Secondly, you say I don’t understand these Myrderi, or the problems they’ve beset on you. You’re right. I don’t. And at this moment, standing here in this office, I have no evidence that you’ve done anything besides make them up. You speak of me showing anger, resentment, and mistrust. Tell me, Lieutenant, Larek, how would the two of you feel if someone just revealed that they were not who they said they were, that they entered into your service under a lie and were only now revealing themselves after the mission is underway? By the Force, you two! This is a delicate, well-oiled machine! If we can’t trust the people around us to be forthright with us—from the beginning, not after weeks of travel when you suddenly feel a whimsy to be honest—then what does that say about our expedition?

“Thirdly, I do have a right to ‘tell you otherwise,’ as you say. You may choose to be insubordinate, but that is your decision, and all the drawbacks that come with it! I am Moff on this vessel, and as such the respect due to my position is the respect due to the NIF government!” He looked from one to the other, and said, “And I’d be disappointed if I had to remind either one of you that, just hours after this ship set sail for the black, there were concerns about possible sabotage. The stink of that is still in the air. We have to think about our crewmen and crewwomen, and what would happen to their morale if they found out that they had a deceiver amongst them. I can tell you that the Vicereine, for one, is not a woman to take something like this lightly. She’s been entrusted with literally thousands of lives, and she expects to be in total control of this operation. She will be…displeased, to say the least about this.”

Kicking himself mentally while Rikku delivered her tirade of information and emotion, the cogs within his brain were already turning. This man was outraged that the expedition - his expedition - had been infiltrated and that it had gone on without his knowledge for this long. It was, Iaex knew, a perfectly rational response under the circumstances.

In the end, there was nothing Iaex could say or do that would prevent the foregone conclusion of this meeting, and in fact anything he tried at this point might harm the overall situation further. Hopefully Rikku sees the same in all of this now... His mention of that possible sabotage brought back memories of that past incident to Iaex. It still remained largely unsolved, having been determined that no true sabotage had been perpetrated against ICE, but it was still unknown exactly what had been done, and beyond that what its purpose was.

I have been working on that problem with the ISIS agents and sensor agents since it happened, and we still haven't yet resolved it.

Breaking into his thoughts however as he stood at attention - old habits die hard - were the STARS officers who arrived and entered the office right after the Moff's last tirade had ended. It was almost poetic, and almost managed to coax a smile from Iaex from some strange sense of dark humor. The seriousness of the situation prevented that from happening, however. As the words, "she will be...displeased, to say the least about this." were spoken, the doors to the office opened once again and the soldiers stepped through, waiting for the Moff's acknowledgement and orders.

Rikku stood there calmly. Iaex noticed the same calm and serene state had returned. Rikku spoke softly this time and bowed her head, "Gomennasai Sotaicho! I was out of line. Please forgive my rudeness..."

Rikku spoke again, "To answer your question: I would be in the same state. As to the sabotage, you will find that I was at the 'assigned station' in the engineering control room. Surrounded, I might add by fifty crew mates at all times and under constant passive surveillance. If you wish to make a charge against me. I humbly request that you do so directly."

Rikku heard the troopers enter but she decided now was better than later. Rikku bowed gracefully at the waist and bowed her head such as to look at the floor. "Moff Calad, I do not mean to have insinuated a hostile intent. If you allow me to attempt to rectify my mistake, I will do so. I wish to explain myself, with your permission?"
